I own a chemical import and distribution company in the US. I’ve been in the business since 2006. I’ve never seen anything like this. Consumer prices, especially for food, are structurally fucked for at least the next 18 months. We might be independent on oil in theory but prices are set globally. The shortages are showing up in propylene derived product now but fertilizers are where the real crisis hits. Not for a while though and by the time you see it at the store it’s months too late to do anything about it.
