So Jack in case you didn't know. I played the Saxophone in the Army Band. In high school I thought I was pretty good, until I got to AIT... It was all down hill from there. Got to my unit at the 101st and my squad leader, and E6 black guy said, SPC Sparks if you want to get good at jazz and playing you have to go gig... I said cool, so my girlfriend and I went to the "club" to hear him. It was called the level 88. We were the only white people in the club, but it was cool since I was with my SSG. They didn't start playing until about 11 and we left around 0100. I told myself right then (remember I'm like 19 years old) that I'll never be a good jazz player because being in bed before 2200 is my happy place... After that I decided to just do my part, and figure out something else. Later when I joined the NG in Nashville, my SFC used to do drill and then do a gig on Saturday night and come to Sunday drill with like 2 hours of sleep. Nope not me.

Glad I found a "better path" so yes I too feel it in my soul.
