Why? Genuinely asking. Never really understood why you would write one.
Memory is an artifact with variable results because the brain only preserves fragments, and every time you 'remember' something, you are reconstructing it with missing pieces. A diary provides more pieces for that puzzle and can include emotions that not everyone is necessarily able to collect without it.
