so, i have issues with insects penetrating the leaky gaps in this run down old villa in croatia. the three bugs that get inside the most, and irritate me, are, by order of most irritation, stink bugs,...
Arachnids also don't like cedar/cedarwood oil.
Citronella is also popular for mosquitos, and relatives.
Ants aren't fond of cinnamon powder. It can act as a barrier. I haven't tried using cinnamon oil. The types of cinnamon available are vastly different, so experimentation might be needed. They are the one home invader where I'll use an industry product, Terro. Not the traps, but a bottle where you put a ~1cm diameter drop on a cardboard square provided by the packaging. People claim that it's just borax and corn syrup, but I tried that and had virtually no results.
For flies, the ultimate tool is a Bug-A-Salt, especially the version with a laser sight. Fun, and effective.
