You don't have to suffer much if you have the right mindset. The suffering in itself doesn't lead to any good. The degree to which you suffer when doing things like exercise is your weakness and poor mental virtue. Glorying suffering is mistaken. But if by "suffer", you just mean to do things which may challenge you to potentially suffer if you are weak, then you should do that wisely and a lot.

You ahould challenge yourself with activities that challenge you to potentially suffer if you fail in your virtue, because it's instrumental to the growth of your virtue.
