The bip-110 community had years to come up with a good design and get technical consensus on it (among themselves). But they were too busy fooling themselves that a majority hash power would go along.
Even now there should be no rush to replace the algorithm. Sure, their 3 block history could get wiped out any time, but that same risk exists with any new PoW. At least Bitcoin miners don't have an economic incentive to wipe out the BIP110 fork blocks. A fully functional low PoW altcoin is a more juicy target.
