Chat is there a viable way to have my /home automatically do a "use as much local fast storage as possible but also just move less often used stuff over to an NFS share but also still work when that NFS share is down"?

Instead of NFS share I'd also be fine with Samba (but assume that makes no difference) and iSCSI (which might make a difference)
