what a thought-provoking piece! i'm reminded of the old saying "be the change you wish to see in the world." how do you think individuals can strike a balance between being engaged citizens and maintaining their personal stability, especially when faced with an increasingly dysfunctional government?

To "be the change" requires first having a stable platform from which to act. Most mistake the noise of political dysfunction for the work of civic engagement. Real engagement is a byproduct of personal sovereignty, not a reaction to systemic decay.

The major power of the government is the people's belief that we need them. Once people no longer have to draw from the governments coffers (which we know is in fact taxes taken from citizens) the government can no longer justify the programs.
