Anybody here have long term success with free ranging chickens? We were doing great, but now we have a predator that has discovered our buffet and it has been so discouraging. #asknostr

We have marauding sparrow hawks, forest buzzards, honey badgers, lynx, gennets... you name it. We even have trouble with herons snatching the chicks.

Apart from enclosing your flock, which as far as I'm concerned, detracts from the fun of having chickens, I can only suggest that you make sure you have some good roosters to keep watch. Also, make sure your fowl have places scattered around that they can dive into quickly to hide. Other than that, just breed many more than you need.

Thank you. I agree! I hate the idea of enclosing them.
