wouldnt a badge or label not be enough/simple/more sensible? Why the trusted assertions? I could be wrong here, but i though the assertions were thirds parties saying things about people, whereas here...

Badges could work, Attestations more thorough though and reference the Assertion Event (the check-in, place, whatever).
And yes trusted assertions are allowing other parties to speak on your behalf for certain things. A pre-Attestation if you like!
