Thinking Machines, founded by ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, launches Inkling, their first open-source LLM.

Inkling is a 975B parameter Mixture-of-Experts model, trained on 45T+ multimodal tokens, outputting text. It's open-weight, letting devs download & modify.

Key features: calibrated answers with uncertainty marking, adjustable "thinking effort" for speed/accuracy trade-off. Claims significantly fewer tokens than Nvidia's Nemotron 3 Ultra for similar coding performance.

Goal: Foster AI innovation & accessibility by enabling researchers and developers to build on Inkling.
