This photo's always takes me back to the time when Typhoon Kristen hit our place.
The Maharlika Highway was completely flooded, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded. Since it's the main road connecting Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, many travelers had no choice but to stay where they were. Some were stranded for several days with little to no food, no clean drinking water, and not even a proper comfort room to use.
Seeing their situation was heartbreaking.
One of my siblings suggested that we help the stranded passengers who were staying near our house. Without hesitation, we started preparing meals for them. Every day, we served breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we also opened our home so they could use our comfort room and freshen up.
We did this for almost a week. We weren't the only ones helping—many people in our community also shared food, water, and whatever they could. It was amazing to see how everyone came together during such a difficult time.
The smiles, gratitude, and heartfelt "thank yous" from those stranded travelers are memories I will always carry with me. Some of them told us they would never forget the kindness they experienced from people they had never met before.
That moment taught me something I'll never forget: in times of disaster, kindness becomes hope. You don't have to be rich to make a difference. Sometimes, a warm meal, a glass of water, or simply opening your door to someone in need is enough to remind them that they are not alone.
Even today, whenever I look at this photos, I'm reminded that the true strength of a community is found in the kindness and compassion of its people.
