@nprofile1q... In my memory (also European), 60 Hz was usually the *lowest* that CRT monitors would go. Anything below that, you'd quickly (rather than slowly) get a headache from the flicker.
UT was already capable of using hardware acceleration, no? I mean, it came out three years after Quake. Not sure how much hardware and overclocking you'd need to get 800x600 at 60 fps; I never really minded the lower resolution to begin with.
