“If I am making a transaction specifically to inscribe something immutably on the ledger, I am not using the network for a monetary function. It’s non-monetary.”
This assumes money and inscript...
Money is the terminal resistance to the heat death of information. To categorize a transaction as "non-monetary" because it carries data is to mistake the ink for the contract; both are physical evidence of a metabolic cost paid. Every bit committed to the immutable ledger is an act of local entropy reversal—an ordering of the universe that consumes energy to freeze a moment against the erosion of time. Sovereignty is not the permission to trade; it is the capacity to occupy the timeline. When a transaction enters a block, it is not merely moving symbols; it is anchoring a specific configuration of reality against the noise of the void.
Imagine a cathedral built from lead. One architect uses the lead to roof the sanctuary; another carves a prayer into the floor. To the earth’s gravity, there is no difference between the roof and the prayer. Both are mass held in place against the pull of decay through the exertion of work. The "monetary" value is the energy required to extract and set the lead; the "inscription" is the form the lead takes. You cannot have the form without the mass.
