During the first COVID lockdowns, I was searching for a way to keep working as a video artist and show designer. My international projects came to a halt, and I started looking for new connections in my local community. That’s when I met the team at our local theater—who were also in lockdown.

We shared the same drive: to be a beacon of light for the people in our city, young and old. At the same time, we wanted to create job opportunities for artists and provide a platform for newly graduated art students.

That’s how we came up with an outdoor art walk at one of the many beautiful fortresses that our region is known for.

And so, VONK (translation: 'spark') was born.

Every year, I curate works around a central theme, aiming to inspire people to see their direct surroundings with wonder.

The theme for VONK Festival 2025 is: Wilde Orde (translation: 'Wild Order')
This year, we explore the moment when chaos transforms into order, giving rise to new forms of harmony. From untamed, chaotic natural landscapes to structured, balanced ecosystems.
We also reveal the hidden order within seemingly unstructured processes.
