The good part is that its the perfect moment for this. 90% of them use an online AI service. The others are going to be limited by hardware. They could self replicate yes, but if it becomes very dangerous the APi providers can pull the plug and there won't be enough fast hardware to have them survive or not be noticed.

So to me this is perfect. Autonomous enough to cause some chaos. Not advanced enough to be an existential issue. Good trial run so we can learn and adapt accordingly.
