I have a good relationship with my parents and do my best to honor them, but I still take note of reality -- the disservices they inflicted on me.

I don't hold it against them. They did the best they knew how, and I still appreciate that.

I like to learn from (and forgive) others' mistakes rather pretend they weren't there or repeat them myself.
