I think people are struggling more and more, and due to this struggle they become more intensely focused on the drama surrounding the central power that issues the nations currency because they believe "their group" controlling the center of power will bring them relief from those struggles.

It's just desperation. People don't understand that letting go of the dying fiat currencies, and the organizations that supply them, will actually bring them more relief. That lack of understanding coupled with the algorithms that drive the most eyes to the most engaging information, leads to the most dramatic people getting the most attention and the most supporters/fans. This is why Trump/Bolsonaro won their elections, they are simply more attention grabbing and hold more eyes to screens than the other more sensible people do.
