I agree with the premise but it does not account for the fact that not all “free cycles” are created equally. Sometimes you are energetic and full of creative juice when a bit of free time presents itself. Sometimes you are not. You might just need total freedom from conscious thought for a few hours. Maybe a walk in the bush. Maybe an activity that is totally unproductive. In this world of convenience, we, unlike our forefathers, don’t have to work from sun up to sun down to meet basic needs. Boredom and freedom from continual work seems to be a modern condition.
