it would essentially act as email but I dont see the reason for reproducing it exactly. At least allowing opt in email integration you're reaching the outside world (outside of nostr)

Nostr DMs practically are email. They should expire on the server though. Expiry dates on events would be a great thing for assisting in managing the volume of data to eliminate stuff that users don't need to have relayed any more.
