If you took "Learn to Code" as advice to learn to be an agile software engineer then you're actually very well positioned right now. Agreed that drilling on how to write a sort algorithm was a waste of time. But learning how to arrive at high quality software **systems** was exactly what you need right now.

I don't know how the next crop will learn those skills, but my suspicion is that by the time they need it, it won't be necessary.
