I've got a VPS with a bunch of self-hosted docker containers, uptime in years with no plans to ever take it down. I'll look into adding this. Is there something I need to do afterwards to advertise it or something?

It's permissionless crowdfunding, where a (trusted) third party holds the funds and disperses them as the project is completed to satisfaction. (hint: that "trusted third party" can also just be the person doing the project, if contributors trust him enough directly)
