This is one of those statistical effects that basically is never addressed. Childless men are more likely to say that they desire children than childless women are. So, there's now this meme that women don't really want kids, but men do.

But moms are more likely to say that they desire _more_ children, than fathers are. Since mothers are the most fertile cohort, both by natural selection and by definition, the easiest and fastest way to get the fertility rate up is to promote male virility among fathers, not female fertility among childless women.
