Also, the Canary Islands? Really? The Spanish can't even see them from their balconies.

Can't really spend it in significant amounts, in Germany. It's tax-free, but only if you hodl it and/or spend under a certain amount every year.

People keep asking me why I focus more on the Ukrainian conflict, than the ones in Somalia, Venezuela, Yemen, Tibet, wherever.

It's simple, really.
1. It's geographically closer to my home.
2. It's the one my friends and relatives are involved in.
3. I'm partially Russian.
4. I am personally affected by it, in my daily life and my nation's politics and economics.

That's like asking why I would care more about a conflict in Britain, than one in Nepal or Uzbekistan. I can't even point to those countries on a map.

Reporting on conflicts gets increasingly global, but when I hear that Georgia is turning into a hot war, I'm thinking they mean gang violence in Atlanta.

I don't care about every place, as much as I care about some places. I feel sorry for people who can't relate. It's telling. They are emotionally homeless.

We already knew that the Russian stuff wouldn't work, as Israel got right past them in Iran. Chinese stuff will tend to underperform, so no surprises there.
