And in our current system, we are all being taxed to pay for these people's lack of care, usually in the form of policing, EMS calls, and emergency department visits, which often clogs my system in the winter months. It would be much cheaper, more efficient, and safer for the patient, providers, and public if these people had consistent care in an appropriate facility with providers, care givers, and social workers who are better trained in their needs.

I live in reality. Theoretical and philosophical political discussions are cool (when you don't roll in like an asshole), but that doesn't change how things are right now. Currently, we toss people onto the streets (some of whom are quite dangerous), and wait around for them to hurt themselves or others. That's a dumb approach when they give repetitive indications that they simply cannot and will not function in society.
