These are people that have tried and have created their own entropy using dice, pills or cards. Maybe they don’t understand that when they sit as a ‘panel of experts’ in front of an audience...

I’m one of those 12 word proponents.

We can discuss IRL but look into the full systems’ entropy. SHA-256’s real collision security is 2^128. Pilling more entropy into the private key doesn’t change the lower bound of the system.

All that said, there is no ‘right way’ if 24 makes you sleep better then do that…

I do agree that removing as much trust as possible, wherever the user’s technical level, should be the goal. Everyone can roll dice - most enjoy it!

The laziness is probably more in the teacher than the learner.

I’ve been a 12 word proponent until now, based on a ‘trust me bro’ understanding. … maybe it is my lack of understanding in the difference between 258bit entropy and SHA-256 real collision security. I’ll look into it. 👍

Does this hold true under quantum? Yes, I understand the FUD that quantum computing currently is however let’s suspend that reality for a moment… Say we wake up tmw and quantum computing has been solved. You’ve got a 128bit seed and I’ve got a 256bit seed… is one of us in an urgent rush ...
