I used Linux in the 1990s and it was definitely only for nerds (ie me) Came back to it in 2010 and was blown away at how far it had come. Now we have governments going all out.

When I lived in Toulouse, there was quite an active free software community, with an annual Capitols du Libre conference, https://capitoledulibre.org/, community organized and no cost to attend.

It's interesting also how communists like Linux. I remember reading that Lula around 20 years ago mandate Linux on govt PCs in Brazil and also in their national bank. The bank was fined millions by Microsoft then switched to Linux.
