Sure, but that doesn't answer the question; do we offer an actual credible alternative to a monopolistic company with enough money to fund these public goods for free or are we just bitching?

Because the alternatives are typically either state sponsorship, which is usually called gay and socialist, or communal P2P crowdfunding which historically isn't sustainable, and the examples of tragedy of commons are endless.

I am just saying we need to be more honest and face the difficult and complex reality and tradeoffs. A principled and commited critic to Google and the like, needs to show up with the alternative.
