Someone mailed me some raised print books and, while I am an adult Braille learner/beginning reader, I can read raised print a billion times faster than Braille. This is fantastic! I tried learning contracted Braille, what we used to call Grade 2, but I am at the point where I will remain, I believe. I'm comfortable with grade 1. Uncontracted Braille. I still say, if you can learn Braille as a child, do so. If you have a blind child, put them in Braille classes. They will thank you later even if they protest now.

I get why Braille is prefered. Vastly easier to produce, especially digitally, but I wish places such as the NFB understood that I learned to read in another way, and Braille might not be viable, frankly.
