2 months ago vs now. years to go!
we now have internet, solar power, potable water, a backup water system in the works, a clean humble bathroom with a shower, an outdoor camp style kitchen with a refrigerator, lights, and a lot more waterproofing and foundational security on the structure. We have no permission. i can now live onsite pretty comfortably, which is a 0 to 1 improvement for the build. The goal is not material things but moreso delineating spaces and increasing quality of life in the citadel.
soon I’ll be building some walls and beginning to close the structure, installing a much more robust water system, windows, conduit, all in due process.
never underestimate the compounding effect of small consistent effort
or the negative compounding effects of neglect.
most days i don’t feel I make tremendous progress, and often discover new problems that need attention, delaying timelines.
all part of the fun, the magic is just spending time outside building.
most people would probably opt for the furnished condo or the single family mortgage. for me i think the end goal is a multiyear art project, during which I’m going to learn how to build all kinds of things.
to look at the world around you, and have a generally correct understanding of how everything was constructed, that’s the superpower i want.
