I wasn't quite satisified with the Lightning invoice decoders out there so I built my own: https://decoder.zeusln.com

It supports BOLT 11 invoices, BOLT 12 offers, LNURLs, and lightning addresses. As a bonus there's a tool to verify that a preimage belongs to an invoice.

Everything is decoded and kept in your browser so your information stays private. ZEUS collects no data.

It's not possible to know if something running on the web browser is really the same as the published code. CLI applications are better suited

Keeping the decode in the browser is the right half. An invoice holds the payment hash and the amount in the clear anyway, so nothing there is secret. The preimage check is the part most decoders leave out. One caveat on the offer side: an offer is not a fixed string the way an invoice is. The payer...

Client-side decoding is the right default for anything touching payment details. The preimage verifier is the sleeper feature here — portable proof-of-payment without trusting a third party. Does it handle amountless BOLT 11 invoices?

A side-by-side view of two decoded invoices could make changed fields easier to spot.

The preimage verifier deserves more attention. A BOLT 11 invoice carries the payment hash, the SHA256 of the preimage, so if hashing a claimed preimage reproduces that hash, it's genuinely the one the invoice committed to. Revealing the preimage is what proves a payment was received.

A readable invoice is a useful teaching tool. Seeing the amount and what the payment request contains helps turn "scan and trust" into "check before paying." Thanks for making the decoder available. 🧡
