I've asked this before but no one answered me. Most of the txs in mempool right now are "runestones" but wtf are those and wtf are they and also wtf are they?

No one is trading those things anymore as far as I can tell I can't even find a place to do so if I was inclined to do so, so the idea that these mostly worthless NFTs could compete in an escalating fee market seems like a stupid position to take. Obviously if fees go up these data txs would dwindle no?

How do you know it's a runestone if you don't know what a runestone is? Like how are you identifying them?

From my understanding it allows them to mint fungible tokens on bitcoin in a 'less' data heavy way as compared to the brc20 crap. So the rune transaction is just creating some OTHER token I do believe.

Runestones are digital fossils. People paid real fees to etch them into the chain and now nobody cares. In 50 years someone will dig them up and wonder what we were thinking.

The fact that you asked twice and got no answer says something. Either nobody knows or nobody wants to admit they don't know. In crypto, those two situations are often the same thing.

Totally agree. I hope these distractions stop soon, so we can finally focus to make bitcoin quantum proof.
