Beyond this case-pair intuition, using β to represent sats has two big advantages over all the other proposals I've seen:
- Availability: β has shipped in Unicode since 1.0.0 in 1991. It renders in essentially every general-purpose font (including monospace), and is reachable through standard input methods. No new glyph design or OS support needed.
- No collissions: Doesn't collide with the principal symbol of any active national currency.
