The EU has a real problem on their hands. As soon as Ukraine taps out, Russia is going to charge west, most likely taking back all of the former Soviet territory.

And on the other side, Russia, Israel, and the US (Trump) all agree that breaking up the EU would be a fantastic idea because it turns a geopolitically relevant actor into a bunch of defenseless countries they can rob. So there's no doubt that they're all going to be circling the wagons around sponsoring anti-EU candidates in every country.

So the EU needs to lose its happy horseshit progressivism and adopt a "what's best for us" posture in a fucking hurry... And you're starting to see it already.
