They've become so accustomed to being celebrated that to see their fad pass feels like a slow death to them. So they become suicidal/homicidal. It has to be shattering to realize that you've been duped.

Either they think they were duped, or they know deep down that they are just a tiny slice of life, and that's the way it is, and they're bummed the world figured them out so quickly. Now, it's just live and let live as far as life goes.
