⚡🇳🇴 NEW - Norway is moving to ban social media for children under the age of 16.

The minority Labour government will introduce a bill to parliament by the end of 2026, technology companies would be legally required to put in place effective age verification measures to block access for users under 16.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said the goal is to protect childhood:

“We are introducing this legislation because we want a childhood where children get to be children. Play, friendships, and everyday life must not be taken over by algorithms and screens.”

I will never understand this "we want something, so the government has to enforce this belief" attitude

Soon the internet and computers are not accessible without ID. Let's prepare for that. Sheeps will just agree, the others will find a way.

sometimes I wonder if governments around the world even know about the existence of NOSTR? #asknostr developers who have created clients, has any regulator approached them to impose age verification?
Or is it? · 3w
That's plain discrimination, and the worst part is, they can't publicly admit it. That's something beyond me. They could at least say they know what they are doing is wrong but choose to do it anyway because *enter any excuse here*. For fucks sake, they can't be honest this one fucking time? What is...
