It's interesting that @Mauricio managed to both call collateralized lending like having your own money printer, and yet somehow also point to moral flexibility in others and deny the immorality of said lending. Are we to assume then that money printing isn't itself immoral now? Because I'm fairly sure that's not a stance most Bitcoiners could be be brought around to -- debasement is theft, period.

Now, this isn't to condemn Ledn outright, but just to ask for a bit of honest perspective. We don't live in a black and white world. I for one have a mortgage, and credit cards. And Ledn (and others int he space) are surely not the same as payday lenders, or akin to the IMF. But this isn't to say they're GOOD -- just that they're a lesser evil. And people in desperate situations often get to pick between choosing a lesser evil, or choosing death (or utter ruin).

I took issue with it being portrayed as okay because it'll help you get ahead. Killing your neighbor to take his stuff and pinning it on his own son will help you get ahead too -- this clearly isn't a justification.

But I'm also not here to sit as a judge of people for the decisions they make out of desperation. I am, however, happy to call the abstract idea of lending as I see it. There's a reason this sort of practice is forbidden at least to a degree in all Abrahamic religions, and it's not because of someone's vision of some man in the sky, but rather, because of the very thing Mauricio said at the beginning -- it's money printing.

It'd be nice to see it just honestly portrayed as the lesser evil that it is, rather than as some pure method to rise out of your situation that isn't devaluing the time and productive capacity of others to enrich yourself. At the end of the day I'd rather see people using Ledn enriched than see it go to the Treasury to drop more bombs, and I'm not naive enough to think nobody is going to debase fiat. But I don't much care for someone telling me that black is white, because that way lies all manner of dishonesty, both to others and to yourself.

Agreed. Honest framing matters. Collateralized lending is a tool with real tradeoffs, liquidation risk, rehypothecation questions, counterparty trust. Selling it as pure upside does the borrower no favors. Lesser evil, sometimes useful, never free.

Thanks for the comment Cykros, though I’m not entirely clear on your argument. I’ve participated in debates around the “morality” of lending and expanded on my view on this. Sharing the link in case it helps: https://rumble.com/v6jhaqs-debate-debt-or-no-debt-plan-forum-el-salvador-2025.ht...
