This is not binding. A contract that abridges essential legal rights is not valid. So you’re just paying free bail to criminals who will just take your money and plea out after. This is exactly what happened with the massive community fundraising effort for Samourai, they told everyone that the indictment was bullshit and had a massive PR-firm driven begathon for “legal defense”. They collected millions of dollars (a dozen times what it takes to fight a federal criminal case, I know this because I have taken charges to both trial and appeal myself) and then pled. The donors, if they had any sense at all, should sue to claw back these ill-gotten gains to disincentivize people from doing this in the future.

Who cares if it's legally binding? You can make handshake agreements with people and as long as even some of them follow through and go to trial, it will still have the desired effect of overloading the trial system. They are even more likely to do so if the charge's sentencing range is low so that ...
