The other thing that really resonated was the "self-concept" part... I.e., better define your own self-concept, or someone else is going to define it for you.

I've seen this happen with people who are "apolitical", but are sort of culturally Left or Right... They all inevitably wind up being partisans, because ultimately something goes wrong in the world, and they need some kind of moral framework through which to view it.

"I was apolitical until Trump got elected, now I'm 'hashtag-resistance' all the way!!"

"I was apolitical until COVID, now I'm MAGA all the way!!"

The Bitcoin community kinda had this happen to them as a reaction to the Biden admin's aggressive regulatory stance.
