it's difficult to identify wash trading, but i'll take the evidence of local activity. could be a regional preference though? TRX-USDT is probably the easiest way to work with USD in certain regions ...

Who cares? People using LN in the real world regularly report 10-25% failure rates. This is not serious shit. At a slavic moneychanger that means people are screaming and threatening violence because that was their rent or food money. It’s not acceptable, it’s not viable. Major LN proponents are quoting “mere” 1% failure rates. That’s insane. Most businesses do over 100 transactions a day, and at a moneychanger that means there’s going to be multiple major problems in a day where people don’t know what’s going on with their money. This shit has turned people off from Bitcoin *forever*. People simply want their remittances to work and they don’t tolerate any degree of failure. The Bitcoin industry has pushed unacceptably unreliable products into spaces that cannot tolerate it.

i don't disagree, but i'm an engineer who likes understanding failure modes. routing failures are an under appreciated problem. i have liquidity, you have liquidity, we're both connected to our nodes... still can't pay the whole-network failure mode is more likely with non-bitcoin currencies though...
