Confession: Something that I can't unsee lately and it's probably one of the best indicators of intelligence - does a person immediately see second and third order effects, understands emergence and structure of described phenomena (qualitative analysis)?

I don't want to be picky about things I understand, there are many things I am not good at (intellectually), but I think this quite well maps with exceptional intelligence and it's very rare that people understand these things, or even see them as something to understand.

And then there's this "feeling" when I am explaining this to someone and they just don't get what I am talking about. Or I meet someone with exceptional intelligence and they see it immediately.

It's a two minute IQ test. I don't know at what IQ (roughly, IQ is not perfect) there is this "switch', but I just can't unsee it. And I find myself using this probe a lot lately.

I don't know if this is even relevant but I'm reminded of this thing I do that I now call a practice tree. As an example, when I want to perform a new procedure or technique with a patient at work, I'll practice in my head hundreds of times. I'll create potential problems and solve them (like branc...

I simply started listening and rarely speak IRL outside the circle that gets it. Sometimes I really feel like 90% of people just aren't built to think.

This and vaguely pretending in the right circumstances that you’re dumber than you actually are is one step further from that. It can be a bit Machiavellian though so you use sparingly especially around smart people. Might also backfire.

The smarter you think you are, the more stupider you will going to becoming🙂

One wrinkle for the two minute test: cognitive research suggests domain-general and domain-specific processes work together in the brain, and how much they function in tandem varies by task and skill level.
