People who are trying to trick you will use sneaky language tricks that - you just have to develop a skill of identifying.

In the case of most controversial topics, what someone believes on the topic doesn't really say that much about them. For example, I'm sure I've heard someone fairly recently blaming 9/11 on "saudis", which is good for a chuckle, but it doesn't make me dismiss their core argument - which IIRC was fundamentally sound and at least plausible...
