I am not Catholic. I hold to Protestant Reformed confessions. I have real theological disagreements with the Bishop of Rome. That is not what this is about.

When the magistrate tells the Church to stay in its lane, that is not separation of church and state. That is Erastianism. State authority over ecclesiastical authority. The Reformers fought kings over this. Literal kings. Some of them died for it.
You do not have to agree with Pope Leo on a single point of doctrine to recognize what is happening here. A head of state told the Church to shut up and be grateful.
That is not Christianity. That is civil religion wearing a Christ mask. And believers should know the difference.
