Definitely ended with enough of a cliff hanger that I'd consider reading the next one. When I read Dune, I liked the way the author ended it so much I didn't feel a sequel was necessary. My sister read the following book(s) and enjoyed them. Not sure if I'd ever get around to reading any more in that series.
