- if a router receives a packed destined to its own IP, but it's an IP the router has on a different interface than the one the packet arrived to, the router just drops the packet
- no easy way to represent an upstream ISP
- a router can only have two non-VLAN interfaces, even though it has 4 ports, and it's unclear how the ports map to interfaces
