Luke is right here, but the reason there is backlash is very complex phenomena that has nothing to do with BIP110.

The issue is belief. Many users believe in core and think that it is “Bitcoin”. They don’t understand soft fork mechanics or they are hearing propaganda that’s untrue about what it does. This is really only the beginning of the problem though.

The real issue is proven in neuroscience {"Neural correlates of maintaining one's political beliefs in the face of counterevidence," published in 2016 by researchers Jonas Kaplan, Sarah Gimbel, and Sam Harris.}

This study proved that when people are faced with facts and evidence against their beliefs, it ignites a response in the amygdala and insula. These areas are typically associated with emotional distress, threat perception, and "disgust." There was decreased activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain associated with higher-order cognition and complex reasoning.

BIP 110 (when proposed to a Core advocate) activates this very primitive and irrational part of the brain. This is despite its rational and conservative approach to protecting the network. It can also happen to anyone who has false beliefs about the nature of Bitcoin - we see this response as Bitcoiners when we bring it up to people deeply ingrained in the fiat system as well. The prior belief causes a fear or disgust response.

The truth is, in this debate of Core v Knots, No rational good actor wants csam on-chain. The proposal to prevent it is at full consensus, and nodes are growing rapidly to enable rdts. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a psychopath by definition.

The answer is to drop beliefs altogether. Verify it yourself and run BIP110. When Core users are acting insane online, realize it’s just the initial fear response - it will wear off then we can all laugh about it.

They are like little chihuahuas - they might be loud and annoying, but they aren’t protecting anything.

Knots with BIP110 is. 🪢
