I just heard something that really changed my perspective in a way, and wanted to share.

"Say your friend comes to you and says something along the lines of:

"I overslept and then I went to the wrong conference room and was late for my meeting"

He then says there's basically two replies to this, A and B.

A "It will be alright, you aren't the first person to oversleep, and it seems like your boss really valued you, I'm sure he'll understand"

Or B "Man, that was really stupid, I can't believe you did that"

He then says that most people would choose something like option A.

But what about if the same scenario happened to you? Most people are quicker to judge themselves than others, and are much more likely to tell themselves something along the lines of option B.

Same scenario, but one is ourselves and one is how we reply to others, what we need to do is learn to manage our negative thoughts so they don't consume us.

The things we tell ourselves directly effect our emotions which in turn effects our behaviour. It's how negative habits and stuff reinforce themselves. Mess something up, call yourself stupid, feel like you can't achieve things, achieve less things.
