I didn't mean that in a UX way only. There's no point filling up an inbox that is meant for, uh... mail, with stuff that is not mail.

Everything is mail. SMS should be mail, notifications should be mail... It is literally the same function.

Mail doesn't mean you need to read it, it can be your machine is going to handle it.

There is no filling up, that is like saying your phone is filled up with YouTube videos you watch... Sufficiently smart email client can always clean up ephemeral notifications.

The real question is why do we invent push notifications schemes when we already have SMTP? What is a notification if it is not a small ephemeral mail? You literally get notifications mail in the physical mail box... And you get notifications and alerts in your email too, like payments reminders, c...

Great idea! Treat all notifications as emails—let your device handle them. Just make sure your inbox isn't flooded with useless stuff.
