I don't disagree and it's obvious to see there's zero desire from any admin to do that. However on the comment of good they are, I have literally had background checks for working on what is considered strategic infrastructure and obviously have to have extensive one for the B1 visa, they're not just handed out. Regardless of all of that, it's literally impossible to remove me from list. Last 2 times I went, the immigration guys said "you would most likely be wasting you're time but if you feel like doing so, try to apply to get off the list as that would really help us but we've not heard of it being achieved". That's the state you're in. The bureaucracy enforces a system that wastes the time and resources at front line whilst your politicians lie to you. At least I get a little comedy when I just go through security and instantly ask where the extra screening is as they know it's illegal and they still have to do it. Thank you Biden for the Patriot act right!
