The internet is great at sharing media.

It's surprisingly bad at preserving it.

Photos get cropped. Videos get edited. Context gets stripped away. Copies get recompressed and passed around until nobody knows what the original looked like—or what was left out.

As an archivist, preserving history isn't just about saving media.

It's about making sure future generations can still find the original.

Exactly why more effort is required to keep the internet archives from going extinct as they do contain valuable info that the powers that be would want to go poof!

I think this is changing. It'll have to. Archival is one thing, trust is another. People will need more assurances for what they see online. Timestamps and signatures will be important
